Good news, Pixar fans! If you’ve already got all the feels ahead of the June 21 release of “Toy Story 4” and wonder what else is on the horizon, we now have answers.
This morning, Disney/Pixar announced via their social media accounts that a new original Pixar film will be headed to theaters on June 19, 2020. The studio previously announced that there would be a new film out on this date, but no other details were known.
Titled “Soul,” Pixar has now shared that this original film “will take you on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions.”
Oooh, we’re intrigued!

The film will be produced by Dana Murray, who was nominated for an Oscar in 2018 for her animated short film “Lou,” marking another example of Pixar’s shorts program acting as a jumping-off point for Pixar creators. Murray also worked on “Inside Out” as a production manager, and on “Up” as a layout manager.
Pressing Pause On The Sequels
“Soul” will mark Pixar’s second break of 2020 from their recent string of sequel releases, last summer’s “Incredibles 2” followed by this Friday’s release of “Toy Story 4,” which has already outpaced “Incredibles 2” in ticket pre-sales.
Pixar’s first film release of 2020 will be “Onward,” out March 6, 2020, which tells the tale of two teenage elf brothers, played by Chris Pratt and Tom Holland, making their way in a suburban fantasy world. Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and Julia Louis-Dreyfus will also lend their voices to the cast.
Pratt and Holland have already played a big role in Disney’s 2019 success, starring in Marvel’s blockbuster, “Avengers: Endgame,” which Marvel Studios top dog Kevin Feige just announced will be re-released with extended footage.
But First, The Toys Are Back In Town
The biggest news for Pixar this week will surely be just how massive a success “Toy Story 4,” the fourth iteration of the franchise’s seminal feature film, will be. We caught a 32-minute sneak peek last month and think this one is going to be an epic crowd pleaser.
All our old toy friends are returning along with some hilarious new characters — like Tony Hale’s Forky, Keanu Reeves’ Duke Caboom, and Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s Ducky and Bunny. It’s promising to be a deeply satisfying film with a heartstring-tugging ending, and we’re betting “Toy Story 4” will be Pixar’s biggest hit yet.
