Blue eyes

Blue eyes are a result of a mutation in the HERC2 gene. People with blue eyes are considered to be really attractive. And according to a study, women with light-colored eyes appear to cope with stress and tolerate pain better than women with dark-colored eyes. Unfortunately, there are no studies with male participants, so let’s hope they’re lucky too.

Green eyes

Green eye color is the rarest color and mutation. Only 2% of all people have this feature. By the way, there are more green-eyed women than men. Green eyes, as well as blue ones, contain less melanin that makes them more sensitive to UV radiation.

Heterochromia

Heterochromia occurs because of an excess or lack of melanin. It can be either a mutation or a feature caused by an injury, disease, inflammation, or from the use of certain eye drops. People with heterochromia have a superpower: they attract everyone’s attention and it’s impossible to stop looking at them.

Thanks to changes in the MC1R gene, there are people with red hair in this world. Only 2% of all people have red hair. This mutation is usually accompanied by fair skin color, freckles, and lighter eye colors, but there are even Asian and African people who have red hair.

Freckles

Freckles are another harmless mutation of the MC1R gene. Here’s an interesting fact: babies are born without freckles, so people used to think that freckles came out if you spent a lot of time in the sun.

Poliosis

Poliosis can affect any hairy area of the body, including the eyebrows and eyelashes. This feature can be a symptom of a severe genetic disease, but in most cases, it’s only about a lack of melanin and it doesn’t cause any problems.

Cleft chin

A cleft chin is the result of a gene mutation that causes the bones or muscles in the lower jaw to not fuse together completely during embryonic development. This feature is inherited.

Muscles

A genetic mutation that provides rapid muscle growth is a really rare feature that often occurs in animals. Nevertheless, there are people who have this feature. Thanks to myostatin, a protein that causes fast muscle growth, even babies can look like bodybuilders.

Bonus: Babies born with full heads of hair

You may think that it’s a mutation, but that’s not quite true. It’s just a cute feature of some babies who were born with hair so thick, some people don’t even believe it’s real.

Cat mutations are incredibly cute too.

Polydactyly is a physical anomaly in humans and animals resulting in supernumerary fingers or toes. In most cases, it affects cats. But extra toes don’t stop these animals from living a happy life.

On the contrary, they have lots of benefits: they can send texts, open all drawers, and shake their masters’ hands.
